A Food Share Program
Reducing Hunger and Waste in Clackamas County

What is Gleaners of Clackamas County?

Gratitude in Action

We were honored to be featured in Metro’s Regional Waste Plan Progress Report (July 2025), highlighting how our partnership helps reduce waste and support local families. Here is what they had to say:

Reuse program finds new homes for discarded products, saves money

Not all materials dropped off at Metro’s hazardous waste facilities are very hazardous. Some low-risk products in perfectly good condition are common cleaners, fertilizers, paints, and other useful products.

Metro household hazardous waste staff carefully sort out these low-toxicity items and match them with community members who can use them - reducing disposal cost for Metro and helping people avoid the expense of buying them new. Metro staff estimate the combined savings are $1 million per year.

The nonprofit Gleaners of Clackamas County regularly receives cleaning, auto, and garden products from both Metro facilities. The organization is a food share organization and resource center for low-income families. The donated materials are offered for free to the communities they serve.

I’m a single mom and I work hard for my family, I may be in a lower income bracket, butthat doesn’t mean I have to live that way - being able to have access to such a multitudeof products to take care of cleaning, and to help enrich and beautify the place that wecall home has made our lives so much better! So very grateful!
